MINUTES
​Damascus Council Meeting
Damascus Town Hall - Damascus, AR
6:00 PM Tuesday, May 12, 2026
 The Damascus Council meeting was called to order at 6:00 PM on May 12, 2026, by Mayor Jones.
 1) All members were present.
2) The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
 3) Justin opened the meeting with prayer.      
4) Brian made a motion to approve the minutes of the April Council Meeting. Second Jackie. All Yes.
   5) No public comments
6) LIBRARY REPORT
    Teri Smith gave the library report. The Summer Reading program has started.
 7) FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORT
    Jackie Williams gave the report.
     a) The Fire Department had 26 calls in April, split between Faulkner County - 12 and Van Buren
         County - 14.
 8) COURT DEPARTMENT REPORT
    Beau Wilcox gave the report. The next court date is July 13, 2026 at 3:00 PM.
 9) POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORT
    Chief, Will Basore, gave the report.
     a) Officer activity for April -158: Agency Assist – 6, Motorist Assist – 11, Extra Patrol – 80,
         Public Service – 8, Medical/Fire – 1, Animal Calls – 3, Traffic Offenses – 10, Police – 10,
         ACIC Query – 16, Court – 0, Theft – 0, Property Check – 1, Suspicious Person – 1,  
         Transfer/Transport – 1, Information Only – 1, Warrant – 1, Welfare Check – 3, Report – 5.
10) STREET REPORT
      Randy Nicholson gave the report.  
11) WATER DEPARTMENT REPORT
     Randy Nicholson gave the report.
     a) Usage is up.
     b) Water loss is up. Rural Water is going to come do a night leak detection session to try to determine
         where the loss is coming from.
     c) The Water Department had 173 work orders for the month of April.
12) MAYOR’S REPORT        
     a) Independence Day Celebration – Thursday, July 2nd, 2026, at 3:00 PM planning was discussed.
     b) Rural Preservation Discussion – Gene made a motion to trash the Rural Preservation Ordinance.
         Motion failed for lack of a second.
         Brian made a motion to adopt the Rural Preservation Ordinance. Motion failed for lack of a second.         
 13) COUNCIL MEMBERS – CONCERNS
     a) None
 14) Bank statements were reviewed. Gilbert made a motion to approve the bank statements. Second
      Gene. All Yes.
 15) Gilbert made a motion to adjourn. Second Gene.  All Yes.
