MINUTES
​ Damascus Council Meeting
Damascus Town Hall
Damascus, AR
6:00 PM Tuesday, March 10, 2026
 
The Damascus Council meeting was called to order at 6:00 PM on March 10, 2026, by Mayor Jones.
 
1) Four members were present. Gilbert Lewis was absent.
2) The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
 
3) Justin opened the meeting with prayer.
               
4) Justin made a motion to approve the minutes of the February Council Meeting. Second Gene. All Yes.
   
5) FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORT
    Pam Mahan gave the report.
     a) The Fire Department had 34 calls in February, split between Faulkner County - 17 and Van Buren
         County - 17. 
 
6) COURT DEPARTMENT REPORT
    Beau Wilcox was absent. The next court date is March 23, 2026, at 3:00 PM.
 
7) POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORT
    Chief, Will Basore, gave the report.
     a) Officer activity for February: Agency Assist – 13, Motorist Assist – 10, Extra Patrol – 43,
         Calls for Service – 0, Medical/Fire – 0, Animal Calls – 5, Traffic Offenses – 5, Welfare Checks – 1,
         Suspicious Vehicle – 0, Suspicious Person – 0, Warrant - 0.
        
8) STREET REPORT
    Randy Nicholson gave the report.
         
9) WATER DEPARTMENT REPORT
     Randy Nicholson gave the report.
     a) Usage is up.
     b) Water loss is up. Rural Water is going to come do a night leak detection session to try to determine
         where the loss is coming from.
     c) The Water Department had 236 work orders for the month of February.
     d) John Payne retired effective March 31, 2026, after over 17 years of dedicated service.
     e) Grant Summers has been hired full time with the contingency that he gets his GED within the next year.
     f)  Luke Wilson is employed part time through the School Work Program.
 
10) MAYOR’S REPORT        
     a) Brian made a motion to approve the Engineering Contract with Garver. Second Justin. All Yes.
     b) A new Bad Boy Tractor and bush hog have been purchased. Also, a gooseneck trailer was purchased  
         to transport heavy equipment.
     c) Independence Day Celebration – Thursday, July 2nd, 2026, at 3:00 PM.
 
11) COUNCIL MEMBERS – CONCERNS
     a) The next Council Meeting with be on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at 5:00 PM.
 
12) Bank statements were reviewed. Brian made a motion to approve the bank statements. Second
      Gene. All Yes.
 
13) Justin made a motion to adjourn. Second Brian.  All Yes.
