MINUTES
​ Damascus Council Meeting
Damascus Town Hall
Damascus, AR
6:00 PM Thursday, April 16, 2026
 
The Damascus Council meeting was called to order at 6:00 PM on April 16, 2026, by Mayor Jones.
 
1) All members were present.
2) The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
 3) Gilbert opened the meeting with prayer.        
4) Brian made a motion to approve the minutes of the March Council Meeting. Second Gene. All Yes.
5) No public comments
6) FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORT
    Jackie Williams gave the report.
     a) The Fire Department had 30 calls in February, split between Faulkner County - 10 and Van Buren
         County - 20.  The new Rescue Unit is in service.
7) COURT DEPARTMENT REPORT
    Beau Wilcox gave the report. The next court date is May 4, 2026 at 3:00 PM.
8) POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORT
    Chief, Will Basore, was absent. Mayor Jones gave the report.
     a) Officer activity for March -129: Agency Assist – 8, Motorist Assist – 7, Extra Patrol – 58,
         Public Service – 7, Medical/Fire – 4, Animal Calls – 4, Traffic Offenses – 13, Police – 15,
         ACIC Query – 11, Court – 1, Theft – 1.
9) STREET REPORT
    Randy Nicholson gave the report.
10) WATER DEPARTMENT REPORT
     Randy Nicholson gave the report.
     a) Usage is up.
     b) Water loss is down. Rural Water is going to come do a night leak detection session to try to determine
         where the loss is coming from.
     c) The Water Department had 171 work orders for the month of March.
11) MAYOR’S REPORT        
     a) Justin made a motion to not renew the membership with Survival Flight. Second Brian. All Yes.
     b) Farmer’s Market started on Saturday, April 18, 2026 from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
     c) Independence Day Celebration – Thursday, July 2nd, 2026, at 3:00 PM planning was discussed.
     d) Possible annexation workshop
     e) Rural Preservation discussion – Brian made a motion to approve the Ordinance for Land Preservation.   
         The motion failed for lack of a second.
12) COUNCIL MEMBERS – CONCERNS
     a) None
13) Bank statements were reviewed. Gilbert made a motion to approve the bank statements. Second
      Gene. All Yes.
14) Brian made a motion to adjourn. Second Justin.  All Yes.
